Tosiya Suzuki,recorder
Born in 1961 in Japan, Suzuki studied the recorder with Kazuo Hanaoka(Tokyo) and at the Sweelinck Conservatorium with Walter van Hauwe in Amsterdam. He specializes in contemporary music and has been working to extend techniques and possibilities for the recorder. The composers working with include B. Ferneyhough, K. Harada, T. Hosokawa, H, Itoh, H. Nakamura, U. Rojko and S. Sciarrino. Their works have been premiered by him. As a soloist, he performed at festivals including Wien Modern, Gaudeamus Music Week, Darmstadt Ferienkurse fur Neue Musik, ISCM World Music Days, Festival d'Automne Paris, Akiyoshidai International Contemporary Music Seminar & Festival, Takefu International Music Festival, Voix Nouvelles at the Royaumont and the COMPOSIUM 2000 at the Tokyo Opera City. He has had recitals and workshops in Europe, the United States, Turkey, Hong Kong and Japan. He was awarded the Nagoya Citizen Art Festival Prize(1994), the Darmstadt Stipendienpreis(1994) and the Darmstadt Kranischstein Musikpreis(1996).
In 2001 and 2002, he gives duo recitals with Mayumi Miyata(sho) in some cities in Japan with traditional and contemporary repertoire.
